Hurricane/Typhoon John formed on 11 August 1994 in the eastern Pacific Ocean. There could be other signs of trouble brewing in the Atlantic basin in the coming days. With much of the Northeast and Southeast reeling from the fury of Ida, another system quietly strengthened early Thursday into the fifth hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic season.
