With no mention of 16:9? I am aware that that other formats such asģ5MM can be lettereboxed but I wonder if the reference to HDCAM in theįestival question assumes 16:9 and then my two choice become 16:9 full Will this result in a "16:9 full frame" or a "Letterbox" Two is an upconvert from an NTSC master which has the black bars topĪnd bottom. Assuming your NTSC edit was made with timecode accurate dubs, it shouldn't be difficult to reconform the project. The best bet for you would be to reconform the project in HD for delivery in a native HD format. It is preferable for presentation in any way that can support a widescreen image natively (such as projection). With Fullheight, you retain more horizontal lines of resolution. I'd say this is preferable - it can either be presented on an anamorphic-aware display device (projector, DVD player etc) or ARCed to a widescreen ratio for display in a 4:3 frame. I presume that the Fullframe ratio you were talking to means Fullheight. When moving from HD to SD formats, you have two options -ġ) 16:9 Anamorphic (also refered to as 16:9 Fullheight or 16:9FH)Ģ) Letterbox (compress the image vertically leaving black bars top and bottom. Will this result in a "16:9 full frame" or a "Letterbox" with no mention of 16:9? I am aware that that other formats such as 35MM can be lettereboxed but I wonder if the reference to HDCAM in the festival question assumes 16:9 and then my two choice become 16:9 full frame OR 16:9 letterbox?Īll HD is 16:9, there are no 4:3 HD resolutions. Two is an upconvert from an NTSC master which has the black bars top and bottom. (16:9 is always not full frame even on a 16:9 monitor or projector?) One is an online with the original dailies which I haven't viewed but are supposed to be 16:9. I have 2 possible choice for delivering this on HDCAM, I suppose. When I export the sequence, the default is 720 by 480/486. It has black bars above and below the image but not on the left and right. It was shot in 16:9 HD, then converted to NTSC for editing. I have ruled out pillarboxed based on what you said. I'm helping to fill out a festival application and the assumption is that I will deliver on HD cam in either "16:9 (full frame)" or "letterboxed".
